Diamond Cut
What’s the ideal cut?
Diamonds are cut into a number of shapes — including round, oval, pear, marquise, emerald or heart — depending upon the nature of the original rough diamond. Only
when the diamond has been skillfully cut does it capture and release brilliant light.
American Gem Society 0 (Zero) Ideal
Light entering the diamond reflects internally from facet to facet and is reflected back only through the top, creating maximum brilliance.
Too Deep
Light leaks out the bottom and the diamond loses brilliance. The center appears dark.
Too Shallow
Light leaks out the bottom and the diamond loses brilliance. The center appears glassy.
The 90-carat diamond pictured to the right is a diamond in the rough. The diamond just below it has been cut to optimum proportions for maximum brilliance.
Cut is the only quality factor completely influenced by man and is the most important factor in determining the diamond’s sparkle, brilliancy and fire. Cut can
influence a diamond’s value by as much as 50 percent.
The symmetry of the ideal-cut diamond, with 58 exactly placed facets, produces the ultimate in luster and beauty. At Husar’s House of Fine Diamonds, we use state-of-the-art
technology to view the smallest internal markings in the diamond and verify the quality and grade of the diamond you’re purchasing.
